JDM: I remember when I met and interviewed you and the group Corp Cartel. We had a lot of fun in that interview. The thing that stands out was that you are very hyper and very focused. We were having an awesome interview and at one point I said, “Do you have any shout outs”?. You shouted out your girlfriend first before anything. Jokingly I began the nickname of “the CUFF CARTEL” when the other members followed suit. I admire that because most men in these days don’t even give their woman a shoutout at all nonetheless acknowledge them publicly. Over the last few years, I have followed your career and your path. I am very happy to announce to your fan base that you married the love of your life and still balance your career. You are one of few artists that has managed to beat the stereotype.  To be a true gentleman and a true artist, takes respect and dedication. I commend you!.

I hope everyone enjoyed this Q&A and that they keep up with you!.

THE CORP CARTEL

The trio The Corp Cartel hailing from the Washington Heights section of Manhattan is bringing their funky futuristic sound and style to the streets. Jonathan “Jaywise” Perez 27 , Mark “Tana” Melendez 27 and Alex “Chaos” Dore also 27 make up The Corp Cartel.

They were known individually for their MC skills in their own hoods and when they met they took it to the next level and created a mega group. “Originally The Corporation was the real name of our team and we just took over in every aspect of the way and while doing that we figured we had everything else on lockdown why not take over the music game as well. so with that being said we started a new addition to the
Corporation and shortened the name to The Corp. and added the Cartel due to our take charge attitude.”

The Corp Cartel has won the Latin Hip Hop Artist Award at the New York Underground Music Awards, they have performed at the Tribeca Film Festival and the 10th Annual New York Latino Film Festival presented by HBO.

“We had the inspiration, drive and dedication to take it to the next level and refused to be taken lightly.”

They have been working extremely hard and have a lot to show for it.

In 2005 they released their first mix tape installment entitled Unsigned Heights Vol. 1 with the late DJ Carl Blaze followed by Vol. 2 and in 2008 their single “Do You Want Me,” hit the independent charts.

Within the last few years they have had the opportunity to work with DJ Enuff, the late DJ Carl Blaze, DJ Prostyle, Crowdmover LBoogs and DJ Green Latern . Producers: Rockwilder, Kane Beatz, Michael “Seven” Summers and XV and as well as a few clothing lines such as: Sabit, Lavie, Gifted Elite, Kid Robot, Brian Wood, Dirty Jax and Orisue to name just a few of the ppl they have worked with in the entertainment and fashion world. The grind never stops with The Corp Cartel they continue to give Hip Hop a new sound and look.

This year The Corp Cartel plans to drop the their first album “The Corp Cartel on Deck: The World Series,” where the single “On Deck,” has been a hit.

In between working as a group they will also be working on solo albums. Jaywise currently released his single “Foolish Things,” and the video and song can be found on youtube.com

The grind never stops with The Corp Cartel they continue to give Hip Hop a new sound and look.

“HUNGRY FOR MORE” An artist interview by Leena

twitter: @ralsoloca / raleenabush@yahoo.com

Feat. SINSAY the voice of reason

CEO of L.D. entertainment Sinsay is determined and plans to be in the #1 top spot regardless of any challenges. In 2009 Sinsay was nominated 4 times by the Underground Music Awards (UMA) and went on to win 2 awards one for Best Unsigned male artists and the other for #1 Contender. In 2010 he was also nominated for outstanding artist.

Hailing from Bronx, NY Jarvin “Sinsay” Scott has been rhyming since he was 13yrs old and from that day forth music has been his life. From being part of the rap group “Livin Dead,” which was considered the Bronx version of the Wu-Tang Clan to being featured on Bobby Trend’s Hand 2 Hand mix tape, and eventually serving time in prison Sinsay has seen the good and bad in life. He doesn’t let anything stop his grind.

“After prison there are no real set-backs, I learned a lot. Loosing my freedom or my life is the only way I can get set-back again. Its a grind and I’m on it, there will be no more set-backs.”-said Sinsay.

In 2008 Sinsay released his debut mix tape “Break Bread,” as well as “Industry in Da Streets” and “The Rebirth of Hip Hop” in 2009. He is currently working on his latest project “The Transition.” As an up and coming artist Sinsay put together “The Rebirth of Hip Hop Concert Series,” which he dedicated to other up and coming artists and well known artists such as. : DJ Envy, Freeway, Charles Hamilton, Jay Rock, Stimuli, Graph and Triplecs who have participated in the series.

Sinsay is multi talented as a writer, artist and a go getter. He has his music featured on Nahright.com, Worldstarhiphop.com, allhiphop.com, Hiphopdx.com, datpiff.com, and on thatcrack.com.

“Having had Allhiphop, lifebeats and habitat of Humanity as past sponsors, Sinsay is definitely at the forefront of being tomorrows next Hip Hop voice of reason.” -William Gone

November is Hip Hop History Month and I had the pleasure of attending an official Zulu Nation 37th Anniversary event at The Hip Hop Culture Center at Magic Johnson Theater in Harlem NYC.

My personal VIP invitation came from no other than Supreme Selo and Lord Yoda of Zulu themselves. The event was a peaceful unity among all that believe in what Zulu has to offer and Hip Hop in our society. We were accompanied by all our friends such as Afrika Bambaata, Black Spades, Gustapos, DJ Johnny Juice, Cheesecake RSC, BPS Productions, Straightman, Elijio Rivera “Jinx the tee shirt king”, Ness, Pop Master Fabel, Ice T, Coco Chanel, Beenie Siegel, Big Daddy Kane, Immortal Technique, The Cold Crush Brothers, and so many more.

I got to catch a tag on a soon to be piece of memorabilia from the event..

I made myself useful for a while helping Jinx the Tee Shirt King with his vendor table and convinced a kid to buy the last shirt in a size small.. he changed on the spot proud to rep for the anniversary!

It was packed to the tee with vendors selling Zulu memorabilia, artwork, good food, hip hop gear, drinks etc. I had some rice and peas, mac and cheese and jerk chicken ..and umm a nutcracker SHHHHHHH 😉

I also got some shirts courtesy of Jinx the Tee Shirt King.. it was a great night!

A new liquor by Ice T was on display and came in all different types of bottles or containers shaped like everyday items such as a cane that easily slides open to reveal the drink, or a high heel shaped bottle..DOPENESS!!!!

Performances ensued thru the evening and I have photos to show coming up soon.. let’s just say it was the illest lineup and if you missed it your probably under a rock! I wont get too crazy with details.. but I will say someone made a statement “You wont hear any of that young money-lil wayne or nicki minaj up in here .. this is TRUE HIP HOP!” and I lost it laughing to myself.. there are so many people who idolize Young Money lately and have no idea about Hip Hop History.. I appreciate the old and the new but I LOVE The true!!

So much to write so little time I will be back with an update and edit this post JUST FOR YOU!!

Peace and Blessings .. Jackie da Model aka BABY J! 😉

Urban Latino Radio “Jackie Speaks” Show every Thursday 8pm est

Well hello there! I have been out and about on the scene and the latest is that there is a TV Pilot going on called “Back in the mix” by an unannounced production team + network and I was invited to partake in the viewing and participation alongside BPS Productions TEAM JDM! We take over wherever we go! but anyway.. Photography by BPS Productions and others affiliated with PACE College and Getty images worked their magic throughout the taping.

Back in the Mix taping was held in PACE college. They intend to tape weekly and include a DJ Mix, a performance, a hip hop history segment, and live interviews. They began with a DJ Battle between Jon Swan and DJ Steel. Jon Swan was very animated and creative in selection. DJ Steel was very skilled in the art of DJ’ing including traditional scratching and mixing. The winner was DJ Steel for cleaner cuts and better DJ Skills, but DJ Jon Swan made an impact and people respect his DJ Game just the same. They said Jon Swan’s creativity level was higher. I agree I also feel his appearance along with body language and personality gave off an animated vibe that caught the viewers attention!.

Naughty by Nature Performed and rocked to the crowds approval with their legendary hits “Hip Hop Hooray” “Uptown Anthem” and “I gotta lotta”. You can go to http://www.naughtybynature.com for a FREE download of their mix-tape and to stay updated on their current performances, tours, projects, and more. From the 1988 Golden Era EPMD // Hit squad performed. Soon after they were interviewed by the Hosts of Back In The Mix and asked the following:

How do you feel about your impact on the game?:

EPMD: “We didn’t know there were producers, we went out on RUN’s tour at 17 years old and learned about our sound being different”, “Run said we had something and we took off after that”..

How do you feel about people looking up to you?:

EPMD: “We like it, HIP-HOP is our life”, “We took the independent route, no middle man involved”

EPMD ON NEW MUSIC: “We told our kids if they follow our footsteps, dont compete with new music..”, quote: you cant “bite” or make same record with same content you have to be original.

EPMD Current projects: A film about HIP -HOP, ESP January Album “For my age group”

Clear up the Rakim Beef please…

EPMD: “No beef here..” Are you still in touch with the entire “Hit Squad”? EPMD: “Yes, we still speak to Grand Puba, Das Efx, and did a show with Keith Murray..”, “We stopped working and got lost”, “Even Nicki Minaj working, we gotta work or well be looking crazy out there..”

NEXT!! : A performance from a member of the 1st Hip Hop act to go on the Jay Leno Show, and is still relevant 20 years later.. Dres of Black Sheep! His new album is called “Black Pool of genius” in which you can hear his latest single just released titled “Forever Lovin You”. As usual Dres performed an ill set.. with my personal favorites as we all chanted along .. “Engine engine numba 9 on the new york transit line.. if my train falls off the tracks pick it up pick it up pick it up bounce back!!!!!!!”

So whats up with Dres from Black Sheep (my notes of his interview):

Dres has been a busy bee, the company KIA used his song for a car commercial and that broke the ice for this album Black Pool of Genious. When asked about Mr. Long, Dres said that he is a family man that now lives in Florida however he will be joining him for the 20 year anniversary tour along with Naughty by Nature. Dres Music was always distributed, promoted, and marketed by himself. His comment on that was that if you belong to a major label you are basically a recipient of a high loan with high interest. If you invest in yourself more and your in it for the right reasons like the love of music then it will work for you to be in this industry. Dres is very proud that 20 years later he is doing his own thing on his own terms and is successful. He states that he is in no way trying to take Drake or Nicki Minaj fan base on..he has his own fanbase that is loyal and wont deal with what they are being force fed these days. When asked about the Native Tongues Crew he said their relationship was positive and brief, they were “dope cats” ad a variety to spice of life. Dres has a track with QTip, Dove, and Mike G. called “Birds of a Feather” on native tongues new album. He tips his hat to De La Soul and said he is in HIP HOP for all the right reasons..not for the bling-jewelry, girls, cars but for the LOVE!. Dres is considered adult contemporary hip hop. in his video for “Doin it right” he teaches his son how to hold the MIC.

NEXT!!!! : Anthem an up and coming artist that left his job on wall street to take on the industry full time as a HIP HOP artist performed. He has a mix-tape with DJ Whookid (A Known DJ for G UNIT) with songs titled “reception” (his ode to the 90’s), and “Looking down”. Anthem always worked and went to school, and he always loved HIP HOP. He wants to make his parents proud. His mentor and financial backer is a man whom he worked with on Wall Street that he steadily confided in about his love for HIP HOP and dream of becoming an artist. Anthem wants to go the independent route the whole way. He was asked which one of the artists who performed was his biggest influence, he chose Naughty by Nature and quoted the OPP song!

NEXT!!: A special guest appearance by Jam Master Jay’s Son (Jason) who calls him self “Jam Master Jay-Son” lol ( CLEVER isnt it?..yes this is too classic). He said he is currently filming a reality show called “Heir to the throne” being aired on one of the major networks he couldn’t name LIVE, featuring him DJ’ing all over the city (NY THAT IS). When asked about his attire he said his father wore a hat with a bigger brim, then he was asked about why he wears laces with his Adidas to which he replied “ITS 2010” LOL!!!

All in all it was a great experience and the pictures speak for themselves check out the album for “Back in the Mix” on www.BPSProductions.com Video and Pics to be added as addendum after editing ill keep you posted!!!

As usual much love and respect… its your girl JACKIE DA MODEL!! over and out this peace…… Dont forget to visit http://WWW.JACKIEDAMODEL.COM for sneak peek of calendar coming soon =)
