Sir Mic ‘I Can’t Help It’

 HatBW.jpg

Bournemouth based multi-genre rapper / lyricist Sir Mic returns with the release of his brand new single ‘I Can’t Help It’.

With four popular mixtapes (Mini Me Vol 1, 2 & 3 and Working Class Hero), a host of impressive support slots (including the likes of Tinie Tempah, So Solid Crew, DJ Cameo and DJ Semtex), and a vast feature discography under his belt, Sir Mic is well on his way to establishing himself as one of the finest rappers to come out of the south coast in a very long time.

Renowned for his distinct and diverse style, Sir Mic has the ability to work in a whole host of genres including hip hop, grime, dubstep and dance, and has even been approached for feature work by producers of the biggest dance compilation in the UK, Clubland Smashed, as well as the hotly tipped up and coming hip hop producer Stealf, who later asked the eclectic rapper to feature on his debut album alongside Jadakiss, Joell Ortiz, Ruste Juxx and many other US / UK heavyweights.

Sir Mic marked the beginning of 2011 with the release of his single ‘I Ain’t Going Anywhere’ (featuring Cynikal & Jasmine Knight), which went on to become a huge hit online with heavy press support and over 20,000 views on YouTube.

The south coast rapper now follows up his debut commercial release with an equally impressive effort titled ‘I Can’t Help It’. The piano driven, energetic instrumentation allows Sir Mic to tell an all too common tale of boozing on a weekend with effortless delivery, and the hands-in-the-air chorus line displays the rappers open mindedness when it comes to incorporating different musical tones in his music.

‘I Can’t Help It’ has the potential to become Sir Mic’s most successful release to date, because despite having enough lyrical substance to impress the purists, almost every British citizen between the ages of 18 and 30 can relate to the single’s subject matter. Accompanied by a brilliantly original video (shot in both first and third person in a host of rowdy Bournemouth clubs), ‘I Can’t Help It’ is sure to become another viral hit for Sir Mic, and mark another step on the ladder towards commercial acclaim.

November is Hip Hop History Month and I had the pleasure of attending an official Zulu Nation 37th Anniversary event at The Hip Hop Culture Center at Magic Johnson Theater in Harlem NYC.

My personal VIP invitation came from no other than Supreme Selo and Lord Yoda of Zulu themselves. The event was a peaceful unity among all that believe in what Zulu has to offer and Hip Hop in our society. We were accompanied by all our friends such as Afrika Bambaata, Black Spades, Gustapos, DJ Johnny Juice, Cheesecake RSC, BPS Productions, Straightman, Elijio Rivera “Jinx the tee shirt king”, Ness, Pop Master Fabel, Ice T, Coco Chanel, Beenie Siegel, Big Daddy Kane, Immortal Technique, The Cold Crush Brothers, and so many more.

I got to catch a tag on a soon to be piece of memorabilia from the event..

I made myself useful for a while helping Jinx the Tee Shirt King with his vendor table and convinced a kid to buy the last shirt in a size small.. he changed on the spot proud to rep for the anniversary!

It was packed to the tee with vendors selling Zulu memorabilia, artwork, good food, hip hop gear, drinks etc. I had some rice and peas, mac and cheese and jerk chicken ..and umm a nutcracker SHHHHHHH 😉

I also got some shirts courtesy of Jinx the Tee Shirt King.. it was a great night!

A new liquor by Ice T was on display and came in all different types of bottles or containers shaped like everyday items such as a cane that easily slides open to reveal the drink, or a high heel shaped bottle..DOPENESS!!!!

Performances ensued thru the evening and I have photos to show coming up soon.. let’s just say it was the illest lineup and if you missed it your probably under a rock! I wont get too crazy with details.. but I will say someone made a statement “You wont hear any of that young money-lil wayne or nicki minaj up in here .. this is TRUE HIP HOP!” and I lost it laughing to myself.. there are so many people who idolize Young Money lately and have no idea about Hip Hop History.. I appreciate the old and the new but I LOVE The true!!

So much to write so little time I will be back with an update and edit this post JUST FOR YOU!!

Peace and Blessings .. Jackie da Model aka BABY J! 😉

JACKIE SPEAKS SHOW SEPT 9TH 2010 WITH SPECIAL GUESTS:

SUPERMODEL MIGUEL PERDOMO, ARTIST JOHNNY MEDINA “J MCFLY”, AND ARTIST I AM PURE

According to our interview here is a little bit about each individual…you may also google them!

MIGUEL PERDOMO:
Perdomo now 28 years old, has been a male model for ten years. He began modeling after going to a phat farm casting with a friend and being chosen. It wasn’t planned. He started work with Diddy (Sean Puffy Combs) 6 years ago for Sean Jean Men’s Wear. His First agent was Drew..he moved on to 2 others after that. He is now with Ford Models Agency. YES as you can imagine he has been hit on by both women and men in the industry who tried to intervene with his work! “There are some Flames out there on the low” he said. His favorite shoot was the Louie Vuitton shoot in Dominican Republic because he got to visit his country of heritage plus flew his entire family to go with him. He was paid over 25k, that didn’t include the accommodating flights for himself and family. He does not speak to anyone directly for work, everything must go thru his manager. “Its all politics”-said Perdomo. The young Miguel Perdomo invested his time in Boxing and Basketball, now that he has an image to uphold the boxing had to be put on hold. He loved to fight in the ring or on the streets, but cannot risk any flaws to his face or body given his career. He is now waiting for a decision after a recent shoot for Polo done a lil over a month ago. When asked, he confirmed that he too is always anxious and doesn’t prefer to wait on getting pictures back..he enjoys being able to show them almost immediately (LIKE ME!) lol. In his spare time he works out a lot, and plays basketball when able. He has to control his weight gain and loss periodically so its very important that he attends the gym. He is also a fit-model for Foot Locker Corporate and Sean John. He agrees that most of the people in the industry have day jobs, because we need em!..Taxes are what kills you, and needing health insurance etc.. He and Johnny Medina met in 2008 when Johnny tried to sell him a tee shirt out of his trunk..they spoke about each others talents and then began working together Johnny for his music, Miguel for his Fashion and guidance..they are part of “The Justice League” a personal crew among their peers. Miguel Perdomo is single when asked his reply was “I’m always single”, “Moneys my girl” .. but also said “I am seeing someone, nothing serious yet”.

Johnny Medina has 2 singles out “Sunglasses at Night” and “Novella”. He says “You have to be really cool to wear your sunglasses at night”, Miguel adds “Yea, No white shoes guys” (to the uptown cats. Johnny calls himself “J. McFly” he has been doing music for 10-11 years now. He feels his single Novella was inspired by everyone who lives a “movie” like life, and women are also an influence to the song. Johnny is currently seeing someone..aaawwwww GIMMIE $20! lol.

I Am Pure singer of “Body Talk” single is currently finalizing editing on the music video for the song. The video was directed by Tat Wza of Hot 97 and Druski. When asked how long hes been doing music, he said awhile but he just recently dropped “Body Talk” in June and the feedback was remarkable. Body Talk was the hit that took off for him in his hometown NJ. He kept grinding, and had every NJ DJ playing the song so much that the on air DJs from out of town had no choice but to play his record. “In order to have a club poppin, you gotta play a PURE record”. The opening DJs would get such a crowd reaction that the closers (headliner DJs) asked the openers/hometown DJs about PUREs record personally. Getting the record played in all nightclubs is what lead to the radio play that he has today, the interviews, and the performance bookings. He looks like a rapper but is actually a singer, and loves that image. His inspiration for “Body Talk” record was for “Freedom of Expression” for all people of all types and ages. There is a possible remix in the works.. I predict a female on the track.. but right now we gonna have to say ALLEDGEDLY until he surprises us. PURE states ” People I stood in line for to buy their albums recognize me and have asked to work together, legendary people”-cant drop names on it tho. DJs that opened up for FLEX of HOT97 felt proud when the record was broken on air, as they had it and played it first..they felt as if they “made it” in a way thru the industry. “My people who held me down will get the remix and or next track first” said PURE. His hobbies include basketball, he is very aggressive on the courts and talks smack at 5’6” believe it or not. I challenged him live on air lol. He says Basketball is so NOW.. you have to play offense, defense and just act on it w/o time to stop. Pure is fresh out of a relationship, which he did value and is not looking but doesn’t deny that he would be interested if it came his way. His song was released and had nothing to do with his breakup FYI.

when we chatted about Facebook..the guys all agreed with my idea for a “Punch you in the face” option. Miguel wants a “I hate you” or a “dislike” button.

No-Fair Job Fair and Social Network Foolery

Posted: August 25, 2010 by JDM aka JACKIE SPEAKS in JACKIESPEAKS247 BLOG, MEDIA, NETWORKING, RANDOM

This is the story of an unfortunate event and a lesson on avoiding social networking drama. As I read my daily tweets, emails, and informative notifications from friends I came across a text blast for a job fair. Being the thoughtful person I am, I sent it to a friend that is currently struggling looking for employment. I even hooked up her resume!

Later that day I call to ask her about the job fair, she told me it never existed. I was mortified!! The site of Job Fair was at Brooklyn College. The source of posting was the Fox 5 News website.

“Excuse me where is the Job Fair that was advertised for Brooklyn College Location” she asked a security guard. “What Job Fair?, Why does everyone keep asking me about a Job Fair, there is nothing going on here today” He whined annoyed that she was not the first and most likely not the last to ask him that on his shift!

I bet he couldn’t wait to leave his post. Anyway the moral of the story is any “Blast” you get on Blackberry Messenger, Twitter, and or other social networks should be thoroughly referenced and even if a News Station with a good reputation in society posts a blog, you should probably call before heading out the house. Save the time, energy, and money before taking a chance. That was a No fair Job Fair!!!

I looked it up, and what happened was they made a posting they then edited the blog and changed it to Tuesday August 24th without keeping the misinformation from August 23rd post and clarifying there was a change in schedule. So that means there was an angry mob yesterday and minimal outcome today due to mis-communication.

SOCIAL NETWORK FOOLERY!

Examples of boredom and annoyance on social network blasts all over the world.

“Please read this now (insert cheesy blast here), if you dont fwd to all your friends your phone will erase all of your contacts”

“God said to tell you that (insert motivational, or passive aggressive saying) and you must fwd this or something bad/good will/wont happen to you”..

“Select from 1-10 ( list of idiotic and immature choices on what you feel toward the sender) and then re post to see what ppl think of you” (1. cute, 2. sexy, 3. relationship material, 4. one night stand, 5. ugly as hell.. etc… lol )

“Whos up” (written at 4am…obviously YOU are if you blasting this..some of us like to sleep!)

SERIOUSLY??????… First of all God doesnt do email, twitter, or BBM…and he is not going to condemn me for sending you to spam folder. Second of all if God is messaging you its time to re evaluate your sanity.

Examples of attempts at helpful / resourceful messaging:

“Hey everyone please see list of Phone numbers for city jobs and pass along to whomever is in need..”

“Amber alert for (insert description) ….” <—(sometimes these are blown outta proportion but most times they work and help save lives.

Now that you get the idea.. if you have a blackberry you now have a heads up on the BBM Blast app and who to avoid!! lol.. if you read your email blasts or use social networks.. keep your eyes open and ears peeled ..don’t jump to conclusions before researching.

Good ways to avoid email spam are:

ON EMAIL: http://www.boxbe.com (Boxbe is the easy-to-use free service that organizes your inbox and eliminates your email Unlike built-in spam filters)

ON TWITTER: http://www.truetwit.com

  • Verify people from robots
  • Avoid Twitter spam
  • Save time managing your followers

ON BBM:

Well they havent developed anything yet, so best advice is to just be selective with accepting friends and if they send you any blasts that annoy you warn and delete!

IN GENERAL:

If you are in the industry, you should maintain a personal page as well as an entertainment page to avoid spam. A lot of promoters tag us in flyers for events on FB .. my tactic is to write on comment field with a snippy reply on my Jackie mode!! example- “Hi this is Jackie’s page, i am not a bulletin board perhaps if you invite her directly she may go.” or my favorite ” This is my pay-pal email ______@___.com please submit deposit for my promotion or appearance at this venue, thank you in advance” They are bound to leave you alone!

I hope this was helpful … stay tuned.. for Jackie Speaks Radio Show beginning August 9th 8-10pm sharp est!
